An Ode to Helwig
In LVH there is a school
Where one goes to
learn the rule
Of what to do when blood count rises
To numbers of great
sizes.
Let’s go there to test its ware
Thanks mostly to Medicare.
Haste
mine eyes hast caught new pleasures
Whilst classroom one it
measures!
Chairs and tables waiting for
Our prim and knowledgeable
mentor.
Here she comes all dressed in white
Like a vision in the
night
She speaks and so much wisdom shows
Sharing well how much she
knows
To help us, if you please
In treating of a dread disease.
On page
ten you’ll find the deeds
That define our educational needs.
Bring those
edifying labels
To all your mealtime tables
Count the carbs don’t fool
around
Make those numbers good and sound!
If the math is too much for
ya
OK! Use a calculator
Get off the couch! Don’t lie around
There’s new
vistas to be found.
Take your blood count by the rule
That you learned in
this nice school.
And be sure you keep good data
So your mentor can advise
ya.
What a nuisance to take your meds
You know the saying ‘bout two
heads.
Don’t be squeamish, push straight in
That’s the way for
insulin.
Don’t get wise and make a yell
Yes! You are fooling, I can
tell.
Here’s my diploma, tried and true
But one word for thee, oh eyes of
blue
Recall you said you’d have me dancing
Nice and easy, no wild
prancing.
So as I dance for glory be
Thanks for all the help from
thee.
And even if it’s on all fours,
Remember please! The next one’s
yours.
